It’s also about follow through—showing that your actions align with your words, and delivering on promises you make. Moreover, constantly being aware of our purpose will also ensure every interaction we have offers potential value, not just for ourselves, but also for the people we're interacting with.

For instance, if you learn in a conversation that someone is looking for a video editor for their upcoming project, you could offer to show your past projects or even offer to edit one of their videos for free. Another point to remember is the importance of authenticity (yes, I will continue to harp on this point and die on the hill of how important this is). Don’t simply put on an act or pretend to be someone you're not. I used to do this in high school and college and it left me feeling nothing but disingenuous and inauthentic...big words to mean, clown paint meme. People appreciate genuineness and are more likely to form a connection with you if they feel you're being sincere. The importance of deriving maximum benefits from networking events can never be overstated. Networking is more than just an opportunity for self-promotion; it's a chance to learn from others, cultivate new ideas, and find potential collaborations that could propel your career to greater heights.

Remember, impressions aren't exclusively made from what we say, but also from our non-verbal cues, including body language and facial expressions.

Before my first encounter with anyone, I normally take a couple of seconds to observe the individual or group, gauging mood and energy levels. This helps to tailor my approach effectively. Afterward, I make a move to initiate the conversation, ensuring that I maintain eye contact while speaking. My intent is always clear and genuine. I aim to be present in the conversation, listening attentively and responding with thoughtful insights. While these steps might seem basic, they play a significant role in establishing a memorable and positive connection.

For instance, at a recent networking event, I used this very approach. My genuine interest and active participation led to a follow-up meeting with an accomplished thought leader.
